Florida Ground Water Association Is Working for You!
You joined the Florida Ground Water Association because you knew it was a good investment, and you’re right! The FGWA has long been your advocate in making sure our industry is protected while we provide pure, quality ground water for the State of Florida.
Through out 2008, Florida Ground Water Association has been very active. FGWA continues to advocate for changes to the proposed Springs Protection Ordinance in Marion County. Our goal is to remove any language that is damaging to the water well construction industry. We are optimistic that we will accomplish this goal. Carl Wood who is a Director of the FGWA has spearheaded this cause. We want to thank Carl and all FGWA members for the time and effort they have contributed to this issue.
The Florida Ground Water Association has established a Member Defense Committee. The Committee's sole purpose is to provide financial assistance for legal aid when a member has been wrongly cited for a violation of water well construction procedures. This year the Committee awarded one FGWA member $2,500 to help offset their legal costs.
Additionally, FGWA has a scholarship fund and will be deciding scholarship winners at the Board of Directors meeting in Key West on July 18th. Members and relatives of FGWA members are eligible to apply. Although it's too late for 2008 scholarships, make sure you and your family take advantage of this benefit in the 2009 school year.
The Florida Ground Water Association actively participants in the Water Well Contractor Work Group with DEP. We are your voice when changes are being proposed that affect the ground water industry and how you operate. We have been very effective at these meetings in protecting your interests, and we will continue to advise you of changes that we see coming.
Without our members, you, the Florida Ground Water Association can not exist. I think we often overlook the value that the Association provides, and we the forget about the benefits that we receive as members of FGWA. Without the Florida Ground Water Association, we would not have a united voice in our industry.
Finally, I urge you to become involved. Make it a point to attend the quarterly meetings, to attend the Annual Convention, to meet and network with fellow members, and to make sure that the Association is serving you!
Have a safe and happy summer,
Pat Partridge, FGWA President |
