Florida Ground Water Association held the 2010 Annual Convention & Trade Show May 6-8, 2010 at the Caribe Royale All Suite Hotel in Orlando. With more than 400 in attendance, an excellent line up of educational sessions and vendors in the trade show, the Convention was a great success. Geoprobe Offers Drilling Demonstration
John Martinuzzi, Geoprobe Southeast Region Manager, and Quinton Wilson from Geoprobe’s Kansas headquarters were on-hand to demonstrate the differences between the Direct Push method and Sonic method for advancing tools in the subsurface. Attendees were able to see the difference first hand and gain an understanding in determining which application is best suited for specific sites.

We are pleased to announce that FGWA will once again donate proceeds from the golf tournament to Operation Helping Hand. Operation Helping Hand is an organization that serves active duty military families whose loved ones have been wounded or injured in service to their country. Operation Helping Hand assists families staying in the Tampa Bay area while visiting their loved ones being treated at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital Spinal Cord and Comprehensive Rehab unit. These are young families with limited resources. Operation Helping Hand assists with expenses, lodging, transportation and entertainment while in the area. Thank you again to all who participated and sponsored the tournament.
FGWA Elects New Board of Directors
2010 Elections for the FGWA Board of Directors were held at the membership meeting on Saturday, May 8th. Board Members are elected from the general membership to serve a two-year term. Newly elected board members are Harrell Champion, Mike Hall, Dan McConnell, Dan O’Brien and Merritt Partridge.
Shortly after the Board of Directors met and elected FGWA’s 2010-2011 officers. FGWA officers serve a one-year term and are elected by their fellow Board Members. FGWA’s officers are:

Vice President – Wayne Smith, Custom Drilling Services
Treasurer/Secretary – Griffin Crosby, Jr., Crosby Well Drilling

During the May 8th FGWA Membership Meeting at the 2010 Annual Conference, President Pat Partridge recognized an FGWA member for his outstanding service to the industry and association. Ben Huss was recognized as the 2010 FGWA Member of the Year for his continued support and leadership in the legislative arena.

Legislator Recognized as Water Conservation Champion
Florida Representative Ralph Poppell (R -29) received the coveted “Water Conservation Champion” award from the FGWA at the Annual Convention on May 8th.
Ralph Poppell was elected to the State House of Representatives in 2002 and represents District 29. He serves on the Joint Legislative Committee on Everglades Oversight, Committee on Insurance, Committee on Agribusiness, Committee on Military & Veterans’ Affairs, Committee on Urban & Local Affairs, Environment & Natural Resources Council and the Jobs & Entrepreneurship Council.
