FGWA Meets with Governor Charlie Crist
posted:12/16/2009

On Monday, November 16, 2009, FGWA President Pat Partridge, FGWA Executive Director Leigh Ann Bradley, FGWA Lobbyist Phil Leary, FGWA Directors Wayne Smith, JD Kemp, Ben Huss as well as several members of the FGWA Environmental Committee had the pleasure of meeting with Governor Charlie Crist.

This gathering was held as a fund raising event for the Governor Crist’s Senatorial campaign and to pass on some information to the Governor about the Inland Protection Trust Fund. The meeting was held at the Governors Club in downtown Tallahassee near the Capitol. Governor Crist spent an hour with the FGWA members discussing topics of our concern, his past challenges at the Florida Capitol and his plans for Washington D.C.

The Governor was very appreciative of our fund raising effort and seemed genuinely concerned about the future of Florida’s Aquifer. The meeting was extremely positive and Governor Crist told FGWA Lobbyist Phil Leary that he would like to schedule a follow meeting with the Florida Ground Water Association in the coming weeks to discuss Inland Protection Trust Fund (IPTF) and FDEP cleanup program in more detail.

FGWA would like to thank all of those members that contributed to Governor Crist’s Senatorial campaign, as well as those who took time out of their busy schedule to attend this meeting with Governor Crist.

2009 FGWA Legislative Report
posted:5/27/2009

The 2009 legislative session will be one which I and many other people participating in the process will not soon forget. From the beginning, this session has been consumed by the financial hit of a declining economy and continued loss of state revenues. This was clearly reflected early in the process when the Governor proposed in his budget that funds in the Inland Protection Trust Fund (IPTF) be swept and put into general revenue, and the program bonded for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.
